Copper

Processes: CopperDescription
During this electrolytic process copper metal is deposited onto the surface of the metal part. See application.

Post Finish
Popular finishes for this process are bright copper or antique.

Rack or Barrel
This process is normally performed on a racking line. A barrel line is available for high volume smaller parts.

Special Treatment
A range of special treatment options are available. For copper, popular options are masking and stripping of previous plating.

Maximum Size
The plating tank size is 10 x 5 x 2 ft. Maximum size for the barrel line is 8 x 2.5 x 3 ft.

Thickness
Range from flash (less than one-tenth) to 1 thou (0.001 inch).

Specification
ASTM, MIL, QQ or to customer specifications

Base Material
This process can be performed on most base metals. There are special processes for plating on aluminum and bronze.

Minimum Charge
$200

Delivery
Average delivery: 24 hours.
Guaranteed delivery: 48 hours.

Process Qualities
Appearance — Red-brown, copper color
Corrosive resistance — Low
Adhesion to base metal — Medium

Application
Copper acts as a mask during the hardening process of nitriting. Copper also has good electrical conductivity properties. It is sometimes used as a base for nickel plating to provide better adhesion, and as a base for tin plating on brass/bronze to prevent zinc migration.
